NATIONAL SECURITY AND MUSIC

Over the past decade, the influence of music on cognitive development, learning and emotional well-being, has become an area of great interest to scientists. With the aim to explore the potential importance of music to improve the effectiveness of emergency personnel in their responses to situations of this kind, the Directorate of Science and Technology Department of Homeland Security United States (S & T) has begun to study a neurological form of training called "brain music" that is based on the use of music prepared from the listener's own brain waves to help cope with common problems such as insomnia, fatigue and headache, which develop from stressful environments.

The concept of cerebral music is based on the use of frequency, amplitude and duration of musical sounds for the brain of a state of anxiety to a much more relaxed.

"That stress arises as a result of working in emergency services, so we are interested in discovering ways to help these employees to maintain their capabilities at the best possible level while working, and to rest properly when completing your turn," says Robert Burns, a director of S & T. "Our goal is to find new ways to assist staff in emergency first aid and to work with maximum efficiency without having to increase their work, their training exercises or their stress levels."

In the company Human Bionics LLC, of Purcellville, Virginia, working with records of brain waves, and each recording is converted into two exclusive musical compositions designed to accelerate the body's natural responses to, for example, increase the efficiency of work, or assist users in adapting to constantly changing work schedules.

Compositions are presented from a clinical point of view as a means to promote one of two basic states of mind in individuals: the relaxation to reduce stress and improve sleep, and the ability to be alert, to improve concentration and decision making. Each piece, from 2 to 6 minutes in length, is performed by a single instrument, usually a piano. According to the descriptions of Burns, the piece of relaxation may sound like a sonata and Chopin's melodic dark ", while the piece to be on the alert may have an own style of Mozart.

Here you can listen to a piece of warning:

After his brain waves resulting in the formation of certain patterns of music, each person is assigned a specific program for auditions, customized according to their working environment and needs. If used properly, music can stimulate the efficiency of work and levels of energy, or increasing the body's natural response to stress.

The music created by Human Bionics LLC is being tested as part of ROP's S & T. It is a program that combines nutrition, education on healthy habits and neurological training to improve the conditions of staff in first aid and emergencies, including police and firefighters. A group consisting of firefighters recruited from the staff of the local body is the first from the staff of first aid in emergencies and take part in the project.

The component of the brain ROP music derives from a patented technology developed at the University of Moscow for the purpose of using brain waves as a feedback mechanism to correct physiological problems.
